Hillsburgh Construction to Cease from Dec. 22 to Jan. 8

Sanitary sewer pipe installation and associated road construction will pause for the Holidays from Dec. 22 to Jan. 8 in Hillsburgh.

  • Work will continue until Dec. 22 before resuming Jan. 8 on curbs and asphalt restoration from Station Street to the north side of the Trafalgar Road/Mill Street intersection.

  • Access to businesses and residences will remain open, and both east and west sidewalks will be open.

  • Also, one lane will be open in the evenings and overnight, however Trafalgar Road will remain closed to through-traffic and trucks, and the D1 8th Line detour will remain in place.

  • The Town will continue to clear snow on open sidewalks and work with the County and contractor to clear snow from the roadway.

  • From Dec. 22, local traffic will also be detoured to use Mill, Anne and Church streets (Revised Detour 1), and the construction laydown (storage) area will be within the roadway only.

Project Manager Khalid Rahman reported to council Monday that the project was delayed into the New Year due to weather.

β€œThe milder weather presents issues when using winter concrete and curing, so we have had to make some adjustments,” said Rahman.

Progressing with the watermain installation to Upper Canada Drive in the New Year means residents will be spared construction disruptions next summer.

  • When work resumes Jan. 8, sewer and watermain installation will continue, weather dependent, to Upper Canada Drive with access to businesses and residences maintained.

  • Trafalgar Road will be accessible from the trail to Mill Street, but will remain closed to truck and through-traffic.

  • The Town will continue to clear snow on open sidewalks and work with the County and contractor to clear roadway snow.

  • One lane will remain open in the evenings and overnight.

The work is expected to be completed in March 2024, weather dependent.
