Important notice about
on-call services

Updated December 20, 2022

To our valued clients,

Over the last two years, the veterinary industry across Canada has been significantly impacted by staffing challenges and shortages. Until now Graham Animal Hospital has been relatively unaffected, but recent circumstances have required us to make some difficult decisions regarding our on-call services.

Effective immediately and until further notice, we will no longer be able to offer emergency after-hours care on Thursdays. Additionally, there may be other nights or weekends in the future where we are unable to offer after-hours emergency vet care, dependent on staffing. In these instances, our after-hours answering service will direct clients seeking overnight veterinary care to nearby emergency clinics.

Moving forward we will be limiting the scope of the type of cases our clinic is able to see during our on-call hours to Limited Urgent Care cases. Critical care cases, cases requiring extensive diagnostic work-ups, or cases requiring overnight hospitalization will be referred to hospitals with the staff and equipment necessary to provide the best outcome for your pet. Our on-call veterinarians will triage each case individually.

We will be working with our breeder clients to create, to the best of our ability, safety plans around upcoming litters. We recognize that many of you rely on our specific expertise and skills with whelping, dystocia, and c-sections, and it is important for us to continue to work alongside you to ensure your success with your breeding plans.

We remain committed to providing the best, safest, and most consistent care possible to your pet, and therefore these decisions were not made lightly. We hope that they are a temporary measure, and will be doing what we can to mitigate the impact on you, our clients.

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
